The content is the same as the original version the only difference are the questions at the end of each chapter which is a plus. Great to use with a study group.The print is very small and fine. This is why I gave it 4 stars.

Facts and manners are needed to know

Perfect - just like I wanted - I used to have a copy of this book, but lost it in the hurricanes. It's just what I wanted and I'm so happy to have it back in my library!!!!It's a sure thing!!!!!!

I had this book years ago and let someone borrow it. Big mistake. I never got it back. I was delighted to see this was still available. It has so much more useful information for business and life than the other etiquette books. No one gets to borrow this one!

Maybe my age is showing but I found this book to be filled with common-knowledge. It was basically a primer for everything my mother ever taught me about common courtesy and manners. While I found some of the reading to be a little informative I was surprised overall that my MBA had this as required reading. If you're thinking of purchasing this and you already have a good sense of professionalism I'd save the money. Very little that stuck with me after I read this that I didn't already have a good sense of knowing.

A must have for any executive. A business buddy of mine recommended this book to me several years ago and I must say - it's certainly helped me in many ways. I intend to purchase the latest version soon.

This book helped me with the Business Dining Etiquette report that I needed to do for Business English in the Spring 2015 semester. It just needs a little bit more information. Well worth the price.

Where Is Area 51?   On June 14, 1947, a ranch worker named William Brazel found a pile of strange items smack in the middle of an open field near Roswell, New Mexico. It included some wood, foil, and rubber. Where had these things come from? They weren’t things that belonged out on the ranch. When Brazel went to town on July 7, he told the local sheriff about what he’d found, who immediately reported the findings to the US Army Air Force base nearby in Alamogordo. The sheriff thought all of these things probably had come from the army airfield, which was just down the road.    Right away, US government scientists arrived to investigate. They said that the found objects had been pieces of a crashed weather balloon. The Army Air Force had been testing large weather balloons in the area during a powerful storm earlier in the week.   This made sense, but some people were suspicious. Men from the base had arrived so quickly and cleaned the site so well. Were they trying to hide something? If so, what could it be?    On July 8, the Roswell Daily Record printed a startling headline that said “RAAF Captures Flying Saucer On Ranch in Roswell Region.” (The RAAF was the Roswell Army Air Field.) And the headline, although later corrected, fueled one of the greatest mysteries in US history.   Why would the newspaper print a story that wasn’t true? The residents of Roswell began to wonder. Some people—including many who lived nowhere near the town—began telling stories of metal beams and strange objects that had been recovered at Roswell. They believed the first newspaper story was true. They said that the army had removed all evidence of a flying saucer and its alien passengers.   As years passed, many of these people came to believe the “evidence” had been taken to a secret government site deep in the Nevada desert. The site was two states and nearly nine hundred miles away, on the edge of Groom Lake. It was referred to simply by its location on the map: Area 51, one of the most secretive, off-limits places on the planet.     Chapter 1: Just a Space on the Map      Area 51 is located in the southern corner of Nevada, in the harsh Mojave Desert of the western United States. There were originally iron and silver mines and small mining communities dotting the flat, dry landscape that includes mesas, salt flats, and dry lake beds of hardened clay.    In 1942, there were only two dirt runways on the property near Groom Lake. The area was used by the US Army for bomb practice. The number fifty-one in Area 51 is believed to refer to the parcel of land as named on the surveyor’s map created in the early 1950s.   It was in these types of lonely desert areas of the American southwest that bombing tests could be conducted—including tests of the nuclear weapons used in World War II. The types of nuclear weapons that were being tested were explosive devices that released huge amounts of destructive energy. These included the hydrogen bomb and the atomic bomb.    The US bases that developed these weapons included Los Alamos and Alamogordo, both in the state of New Mexico.    Because even a small nuclear bomb can devastate an entire city, wide-open and unpopulated spaces were the safest places to test them. The US government also felt that the desert provided enough privacy for these top secret projects.   Area 51 sits just outside America’s only atomic bomb range, which was called the Nevada Test Site. From 1951 to 1992, nuclear weapons were exploded aboveground and underground in tunnels and specially drilled shafts.   At first, the site was called “Paradise Ranch” to attract employees. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) conducted background checks on anyone wanting to work there.    CIA agents asked each job applicant’s friends and neighbors if they thought the person might be a foreign spy. The CIA wanted to be absolutely certain that everyone working at the site could be trusted.   The land around the Nevada Test Site belonged to the Atomic Energy Commission. The US government has always referred to it simply—and mysteriously—as an “operating site,” never acknowledging the existence of Area 51 until as late as 1998!   Originally only six miles wide and ten miles long, Area 51 came to encompass over four hundred square miles of restricted land and airspace. (Restricted means that the area is very tightly controlled.) A large military airfield sits at its center, on the southern edge of Groom Lake. This dry lake bed, about three miles across, has become a US government landing strip for experimental aircraft. These are new types of planes that are developed with the very latest technologies.

This is a book for kids, but it is very good for adults who just need to be introduced to the topic of "Area 51," a top-secret military base. It goes into the background of the military's experiments with top secret planes and weapons, gives a little background about the cold war immediately after World War II, and explains the historical and geographical background of the military bases. Interesting, it tells that the U.S. military tested a Russian MIG fighter plane that the Israelis captured during the 1967 6-day war. The book mentions all the bizarre claims of aliens and UFO's prominent in conspiracy circles, but does nothing to debunk them. nor entertain them. However, after reading the book it is pretty clear that the U.S. government has no problem with entertaining such ridiculous theories in order to cover up such top secret military experiments or chemical weapons experiments that are being conducted there. Obviously, the great majority of UFO's are most likely these experimental craft and planes. Great little book for a primer, and if you know nothing about the subject.

This is a wonderful book for children ages seven to twelve that tells what Area 51 really is. It goes into the Cold War and America’s necessity to keep aircraft research confidential. It describes the Manhattan Project, the Cold War, Communism, the Roswell Connection, the Skunk Project, and even The War of the Worlds broadcast in 1938 by Orson Welles. Fermi’s Paradox, the Black Ops, the Dugway Sheep Incident, and a new Are 52 are also explored. This book describes how Area 51 and the surrounding area came to be famous for extraterrestrials. Everything is well explained in language and with drawings that can be understood and appreciated by children. If the information presented here is, in fact, true, then it is a valuable and well-written resource. However, Area 51 remains top-secret, so who really knows for sure?

My nephew is very inquisitive and he lived this book!

This book is amazing for anyone in the medical field. I read it toward the end of my residency, and it revolutionized my approach to collecting the History of Present Illness. I sit down with my patients and let them tell their story, then add clarifying questions to fill in any missing information. It takes the same amount of time, but the diagnosis is clearer and patients feel like they've been heard. Many lives have been saved with this method. I purchase this book in bulk to give to medical students, nurse practitioner students, and residents who perform their clinical rotations with me, and I teach its principals by example. Dr. Sanders is a gift to the medical community and to patients. I need ten stars to adequately express my appreciation!

I have worked with many physicians and allied health care providers ranging from nurses, respiratory therapists, EMT-Paramedics and below, and have long marveled at how formulaic and thinking-free patient assessment has become, with the quality of patient care being equally generic. While for the majority of conditions this works--hence the algorithms and pseudo-assessments, when anything out of the ordinary presents itself, the weaknesses of our healthcare education model comes through like a red-headed monster of shame. This book does a credible job of at least trying to justify the cookie-cutter approach of medicine today, but emphasizes the benefits, in case-study style, of intelligent practitioners on both the practitioners and the patients. I can only hope the concepts and ideals espoused by this book make their way into 3rd & 4th year medicine where they stand a chance, because right now, so many healthcare types are oblivious to what is in front of them. The author makes her point(s) using a number of interesting cases, and if you enjoy playing medical detective, you may like that as well. I hope to present some of the points in the book to our graduating paramedic class.

This is one of those books that everyone, medical professional and general public alike, should have to read. So often do we look to medicine as a magic 8 ball that spits out diagnoses like in Star Trek. But, as Dr. Sanders points out, we know the most about diseases that kill us quickly. For everything else, we can only hope to continue to gather more information in order to make the diagnosis easier.Sanders approaches these issues from a very personal standpoint, relating in individual case studies the thoughts and emotions of both the doctors and the patients, even stories from her own personal arsenal. But most importantly, she does a stellar job at pointing out how modern medicine is a game of statistics, and some people are bound to fall on the wrong side of the coin flip. Even with a slough of biochemical and imaging tests and studies, we simply do not know everything.The value of this book lies in the questions it asks of both the medical profession and future patients. To the profession, it asks what might be done to not only improve diagnostic tests and techniques but also how to communicate medicine's limitations to the public. And to the patient, it asks for patience in a profession that is still young and going through growing pains, but to also trust physicians in their abilities.My one negative comment concerns the last section of the book that discusses Lyme Disease. Dr. Sanders obviously has a significant agenda and treats this section greatly different than the former. She begins with a personal story but spends several chapters on the history and development of Lyme Disease and the controversial "chronic Lyme" diagnosis. While entirely interesting from a historical perspective, it lies beyond the intended scope of the book and carries the character of a major soapbox rather than an exposition on diagnosis. It would have been better (in my opinion) to have devoted these pages to multiple controversial diagnoses, comparing ones that have been refuted (like hysteria) to ones that have been confirmed (like the carcinogenic effects of tobacco).Nevertheless, this book should be read by anyone who might be a patient or medical professional one day--which would be everyone. Nobody is perfect, and Dr. Sanders points out that medicine is no different. However, the implication is that we all want to be--and can be--better. It just takes a little work.

I'm a nurse practitioner in California who happens to LOVE this book as well as Lisa Sander's Diagnosis column in the New York Times Sunday magazine. Every Patient Tells a Story IS the real deal. Teaches one how to think OUTSIDE the box. Look. LISTEN! Think. Really an EXCELLENT book. I've given several of these as gifts, usually to someone going into the nursing or medical profession. It's very educational and should be REQUIRED reading! Just wish she'd write another one. I highly recommend this book. It's short and SUPERB!

However in one study they discovered that the Doctors interrupt the patient after only 16 seconds! The patient then seldom picks up where they left off.You may not want to read it if you are about to go into hospital!

Joe Ellis's book was recommended to me by professional investor so I picked up it. I found it very worthwhile. While Ellis's approach to forecasting the business cycle using economic indicators is biased by his strong retail background and I can quibble with a few of his assertions, overall his central thesis that consumer spending drives the US economy and therefore closely monitoring economic indicators associated with consumer income and expenditures is reasonable. He provides some good insights on the correlations between various economic data and has strong opinions as to what is causal, what leads, what lags, and what is just correlation. He also does a very good job of providing context and historical perspective. At one time he had a web-site that kept the data / models up to date, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. The book was published in 2005 and had data through mid 2004 and there were a couple of points that he made that would have provided clues that would have foretold the great recession in 2008. So overall an informative read.

Mr. Ellis' professional track-record is virtually universally recognized as unassailable. Consistency means everything in investing, and as America's economy of consumption seems prepared to power dive into terrain, Ellis' remarks will be seem either obvious or alarming. After all, the title tells us that it's 'common sense.' And it really is.If you want drama, watch CNBC. If you want reason, read this book. The entire book is built on painfully obvious observations, so those seeking analytical rigor or "an edge" will be left wanting. But for patient people, this book offers an opportunity to avoid very predictable mistakes at every turn in the business cycle.Ellis' advice to wake up and get over the "recession obsession" is particularly timely (again) at the end of 2007. As the markets reprice or just write-down the subprime meltdown by tens of billions at a whack, and as we watch consumer spending remain bewilderingly robust while year-over-year increases in credit card delinquency rates hit double digits and unit energy prices reach for records, the old-timers know *exactly* where this is going. So Ellis tells us: don't dwell on recession; accept that it will be recognized (late, by definition) and position yourself (now!) for the recovery.Ellis' style is very readable, not always persuasive on the details (again, the lack of rigor) and mostly obvious. But if you didn't get it the first time around, you need to buy this book. Finally, the companion website -- which is free -- will be of interest to (and a timesaver for) many armchair investors.

Maybe its when I went to school or maybe its that I've spent 42 years trading (about the same amount of time as the author) but what this book offers is a dressed up version of the PCE (personal consumption expenditures) macro-economic model that I was introduced to in college Econ 101 in the 70's. Oh he has nice charts for to support his points and all, but there is nothing terribly new here that hasn't been around for some time, the author just renamed it with some new acronym.Early in the book you get the impression that this is going to lead to something practical. Forget it. This is just a rehash of a nearly 40 year old model. The author talks about what you should do and that the information is free...Now all you have to do is find it (no suggestions as to where) and have a geek write software to perform the various 3 month rolling year of year computations...Oh...and its really not a model you can trade except for certain industries and sectors that might not be affected by...well anything not in the model...Which is just about everything. And the at website he promises has updated information on it? Gone...the domain is up for sale.I'm sending this book back...I already have my notes from college...including a version of the model he has in the book. Spend your money and you time elsewhere.

The author's approach toward economic data is very refreshing, in that he works quite hard at finding data that is predictive of stock market declines. Just the chapter on the "recession obsession", and why its bad for you makes the whole book worthwhile. It really put a lot of economic numbers in perspective, and made me realize it was actually possible to use economic numbers to your advantage.I would also add that his writing style is very easy to follow. While it definitely helps if you have some background in economics, it is really not necessary.

If you're a complete noob to the world of web development, this is a good introduction. However, it is an introduction (with some exceptions) to last week's web development. Yes, there are some nods to HTML5 and CSS3, but the overall introduction is geared toward a language set (or skill set, if you want) that is decidedly past its prime. HTML5 and CSS3 is the future and indeed, it is now. Were it not, I would feel differently. True, both have some limitations in today's browsers and HTML4 and CSS2 are fully implemented, but it will be a very shot transition.The problem is this: either you're wanting to be a web developer, in which case this DOES serve as a good, but dated introduction; or you need/want to get a website up and running NOW and have no real need to become a 'developer'. In the first case, learning v4 is a need, but you'll need to get a HTML5 and CSS3 manual as well. In the second, you should probably be using one of the many site dev tools out there - CoffeeCup's Visual Site Designer or Virtual Mechanics' Site Spinner or even, tho you'll need to do as much learning about the app as you would the underlying languages and concepts it abstracts, Adobe Dreamweaver.The point is, I'm not sure who the target audience is. If you have more than a smattering of web dev knowledge, this is too basic. If you don't, you should be focusing your attentions to the emerging standards, rather than learning those fading away.That all said, it's still a great learning tool. I'm not contradicting myself here - the writing and style is good and the presentation smart and appealing. The information is correct and concise and overall, I like the book.It's like coming out with a book for Photoshop 3 now that Photoshop 10 is on the shelves.8/15/12 : OK, forget what I've said before. I find myself using this book often. It has good, concise, well-written instructions and I find I really like it more than I initially gave it credit. Actually quite a useful text and (I do know, I have perhaps 10 books on the subject) one of the better intro course books out there - period. My bad for my earlier review. Well worth the money.

I absolutely loved this book, so well-written and and such a nice print. I have decent amount of experience with other programming/scripting languages but I was a complete beginner in web development with zero knowledge of html and css. This book was an excellent start for learning both.The only small issue is that it was written when html5 was under development and although it covers many of the html5 features, the core of the book is not html5, especially with extensively covering subjects like flash videos. That is why an update would help a lot.Having said all that, if I want to recommend a book for html and css, it would be definitely 100% this book. You can build your base knowledge with this and it does a great job at that, and later you will be able to extend your knowledge with many other available ways.

I bought this as I'm in the process of preparing to transition in my career back to being a front-end or full-stack developer -- after about 15 years away from it. I'd been keeping current with HTML and CSS development, so this was a purchase intended to be a quick refresher and to get better acquainted with some of the things added with HTML5. The book itself is well-produced -- full color printing throughout, and well-organized, and it touches on categories beyond just basic HTML and CSS. The only issues I have are minor quibbles and related to outdated information -- no sense in including information about embedding Flash in a website, given that it's a dead tech and has been supplanted by HTML5 interactivity and video. Information in the SEO section is outdated as well, and isn't just the non-issue that the book implies -- it can actually have a negative effect. All in all, though, an okay book to get back to up-to-speed on front-end development, and a fantastic book for the beginner.

Okay I have read a lot of development and code books and while there are a lot of good ones out there, I would say this has been one of my favorites. The author has done very well in explaining conceptually and with practical application and use of the development process and understanding syntax of HTML and CSS. Love it! I still occasionally reference it when I need to touch base with the fundamentals again. but i have let several friends borrow this book to learn coding. I would recommend to have it in your library as a go to resource and learning tool.

Excellent book for any skill-level, but essential to all beginners! The content is laid out in a very fun fashionable way that will hold the reader's interest. The content is clear, concise and well-ordered. I once believed that once you've seen one HTML+CSS book, you've seen them all, but this one is truly one of a kind. The paper quality and design is bar-none a graphical artist's dream.HOWEVER...The build quality. Upon first time cracking this book open, you will feel how stiff and sensitive the binding is. I am very afraid to press down on the spine to get the book to lay down more flat to make reading words closer to inside the page simple. Judging by other reviewers, my fear is truly founded.
