As much as I enjoyed Green Kitchen Smoothies, smoothies aren't my favorite way to eat a meal, so I've really enjoyed this new book from David and Luise. So far, everything from Green Kitchen at Home has been delicious and relatively simple to make. Banana and spinach pancakes. Middle Eastern sweet potato wraps. Mushroom, goat cheese, pear and walnut fettuccine. Farinata with roasted grapes and ricotta. While some of the GK recipes make use of a food processor and high-speed blender, there are a large number of recipes that are simply chop+saute/roast/simmer/toss-together style meals.Green Kitchen at Home is written in a casual but clear enough style that these recipes are accessible to any home cook, in any sized kitchen, who is interested in cooking vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free/nut-free. There are gorgeously-styled photographs of the finished dish next to each recipe, so it's easy to see what you're making.Green Kitchen at Home doesn't call for exotic & expensive superfoods or hard-to-find ingredients. Assuming you are a vegetarian and like to cook, the odds are good that you'll already have most of what you need: an assortment of nuts, onions and garlic, a variety of spices, lots of fresh vegetables, chia seeds, eggs, avocados, quinoa, those sorts of things. There are some recipes that contain dairy/eggs, but a tip is given on the sidebar about what to substitute, and plenty of recipes that are fully vegan. Likewise, if you're nut-free, David and Luisa include tips on the side for substitutions. All of the recipes are gluten-free.Based on the tagline for this cookbook, "quick and healthy", I assumed this cookbook would be mostly focused on recipes that didn't take very long to make. While there are certainly recipes like that, there are also quite a few recipes that have lengthier ingredient lists and prep/cook times extending well past 30 minutes....even in some of the recipes that are contained in the "during the week" section. However, the majority of those lengthy ingredients lists tend to be things like spices, onion and garlic, and an assortment of vegetables. On closer inspection, the longer prep times often consist of letting your soup simmer or cooking the quinoa, so the actual active time cooking is relatively modest. Even some of the "at the weekend" recipes are simple to throw together, like the Middle Eastern cauliflower & lentil salad and the baked portobello mushrooms in white wine and vegetables. So far, I'm quite pleased with this latest cookbook from Green Kitchen at Home. It's easy to work into my regular cooking routine, all of the options are very healthy but also flavorful and interesting, and they don't cost a ton at the grocery store.

I’ve owned the Green Kitchen Smoothies book for a few months and love it. This cook book is absolutely incredible as well! I’ve recently shifted to a more plant based diet after previously being on a Paleolithic diet. I’ve never felt so good in my life and these recipes are a hit with my husband and two young boys (2 and 6) as well. The flat breads are my favorite along with the spinach pancakes! My kids devoured them and my husband said they’re his favorite pancakes I’ve made. If you’re on fence, don’t hesitate another second to add this to your collection!

One of my new favorite cookbooks. David and Luise are a real inspiration for everybody who wants to eat healthy and tasty vegetarian food but not fall back on only pasta dishes and standard salads heavy on cheese. Taste is most important, but recipes are also balanced perfectly to get enough protein and fiber along with flavor. Bonus: most recipes are gluten free (without anybody noticing), free of refined sugars and all can be made vegan if wanted with the tips noted in the book. This cookbook is a great tool to use for everyday cooking, with lots of tips and twist to make standard things a bit more special but not difficult. I would recommend this book to everybody!

I love this cookbook. Not only is it beautiful and inspiring but everything I have cooked so far has been delicious. It's thoughtful food with great ideas for adding protein and wholesome carbs to your vegetarian diet and also works really well if you don't eat dairy. The authors offer substitutions. I am not a vegetarian but wanted inspiration for consuming less meat. This is a great option. Some meals take more time but others can be quick! I already have a cabinet filled with flour alternatives and a diverse spice rack so I didn't need to buy a bunch of new and special ingredients to make these recipes work. I am very happy with my purchase!

This is a beautiful book full of beautiful recipes. In the last year I have had to reign in my diet due to health issues and while I am not a vegetarian, I am trying to eat a plant-based diet. This book is truly inspiring and makes cooking and eating plants a pleasure.

Family meals at it's best for busy families

This book is for a vegetarian that is into international way of cooking and tastes. Also probably someone who wants to live off the grid. I will be more careful about ordering a book I cannot return...for me this book was a waste of money.

Review

James Stejskal has performed a great service to not only Special Forces but to the national security community by researching and writing this highly readable and anecdote filled history of one of the most unsung military organizations in the Cold War. I strongly recommend this book and I intend to use it in my Georgetown course Unconventional Warfare and Special Operations For Policy Makers and Strategists because this is one of the best examples of applied unconventional warfare in special operations history. - Colonel David S. Maxwell, U.S. Army Special Forces (Ret), is the Associate Director of the Center for Security Studies in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. The reader learns not only the history, but also the individual soldier s motivations and way of thinking. The work leaves nothing to be desired and closes gaps in the history of the Cold War...I recommend this book highly. - Colonel Friedrich Jeschonnek (Bundeswehr a.d.), Editor, Hardthöhenkurier...part of the book is straight out of a le Carré plot.  The Cold War in Europe is an often overlooked part of American military history because it stayed cold. But as this book shows, for the men serving on the front lines next to the Iron Curtain, conflict was always a real possibility that could happen at any time. Their sacrifice and service helped ensure the eventual collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and the peaceful reunification of Germany. - New York Journal of Books

From the Author

Their enemy: the Armies of the Warsaw Pact - over 1 million strong.Their mission: Buy NATO time in the event of a Soviet attack against Europe. The odds against them: Suicidal. These days we often hear of the exploits of special military units like "Delta" and the SEALs. But what about the unit that led the way in the field of unconventional warfare and counterterrorism?"No force of its size has contributed more to peace, stability and freedom."That's what the former head of US Army Special Operations Command, Lieutenant General Charles Cleveland said about the unique subject of this book. This is the history of a unique US Army Special Forces Detachment and the men who served in it. Known initially as Detachment "A" Berlin, it was stationed far behind the Iron Curtain in West Berlin, inside the Soviet-controlled German Democratic Republic. This unit existed for one reason: to cause havoc behind the enemy's lines.Like all American Special Forces units, Detachment "A" traced its origins to the Office of Strategic Services, but its methods of operation were unlike those of any other "SF" unit. The book describes the unit's origins and the reasons for its existence through recently declassified files and first person histories of those who served there. These voices will show the unit's evolution as the enemy and the environment changed. The men relate the details of their improbable mission, how they prepared, and how it was to be accomplished. It is told from the soldiers' viewpoint along with the strategic overview from the top. Special Forces Berlin's wartime mission was classified Top Secret and was largely unchanged throughout its existence, but it had a second important peacetime mission. In the late 1960s, unrest struck the capitals of Europe as left-wing radicals and Palestinian nationalists began to use terrorism to achieve their political goals. In response, the US European Command ordered the unit to prepare for a new mission: Counterterrorism. The level of expertise it achieved, along with its skills in urban unconventional warfare, led to its participation in the attempted rescue of the American hostages in Teheran, Iran.Although the ill-fated Iran Hostage Rescue Raid has been generally covered elsewhere, this book tells an aspect of the story that has never been covered - the Detachment's mission and its men on the ground who led the way for the main force. The history ends with the fall of the Berlin Wall, but the unit left a legacy that served as a guide for the creation of a new kind of Special Mission Unit. How can I tell the story? I was there. I served in the unit twice and know the men, mission, and environment well. But this is not my story or my history - it is the history of everyone who served in the unit before, with, and after me. It is told with their stories alongside the history from the unit's files and with images to illustrate the activities from the early days until the end. This is a history that may only be told once. Few records remain and many of the men who served in the units are gone. No official history was written and the words contained in this work may well be the definitive history of this very unique US Army unit.

As a military historian with a Masters in Military History, it's not often that I find a book that I simply can't put down. Most books get a good professional look-see and filed for reference. Not so Jim Stejskal's book on the Berlin Det-A.This is not only a remarkable book, but an important book. Very little has been written about the ETO operations of the Special Forces during the Cold War. Most of the SoF literature that covers the period has been written about the MACV/SOG operations in Vietnam and in other conflicts... and most has been written from a first-person perspective (more on that below.). This book documents some of the untold and most incredible aspects of the Cold War as fought in Europe including revelations about the use of "Backpack" nukes and of the U.S. Army Special Forces operations behind 'enemy' lines in Cold War East Berlin and East Germany. . If, in fact, you liked Jonathan House's book "A Military History of the Cold War" or Eric Haney's "Inside Delta Force" then this is also must-reading.One of the best aspects of this book is that it was written by a serious and professional military historian... who was also a part of the unit through two tours of duty. Yet unlike a lot of the 'I was there' tell-all books about Special Operations forces, this is not a personal aggrandizement or a "look at me" type of read. This is a very in-depth and incredibly well-researched unit history that follows the Berlin Det-A teams from their inception int he 1950's through the dismantling of the unit after the dismantling of the Berlin Wall. Though the author was there and was a key member of the unit through some of the most interesting and tense moments of the Cold War, not once in this broader unit history does he mention his own role. Instead, this is a book documenting an un-heralded and unique unit of the U.S. Army Special Forces. It also gives a fantastic look into the culture of West Berlin from, for lack of a better term, a 'worm's eye view.'Last, and possibly among the most intriguing elements of this book, are the detailed revelations of the Berlin unit's involvement in Operation Eagle Claw, the attempt to rescue the American Hostages from Iran. Though several 'first person' narratives of this operation have been well-received (including Charlie Beckwith's "Delta Force" and Haney's book mentioned above) this is the first book that reveals some of the un-heralded activities of the operators who were on the ground in Tehran preparing to meet the Delta and Ranger rescuers who never made it past Desert One. It details the pre-rescue surveillance carried out by Dick Meadows and also documents an largely-forgotten aspect of the raid, which was the complication of how to rescue Americans held at the Chancellery building in Tehran, separate from other hostages.Without a doubt, this is a book that should be on the shelf of any serious student of Special Operations. It is also very readable and completely engaging. A must-read.

There are several excellent first-person accounts of episodes in Special Forces creation, development, and operations that we hold as important to our history. This work is not one of those. It is much more comprehensive. In Special Forces Berlin, Stejskal takes us through two generations of Green Berets clandestinely planning and executing missions in a unique environment during the Cold War, a period covering more than half of Special Forces existence. The power of the work is in Stejskal’s approach. He takes us from the post-WW II Cold War world environment to the creation of Special Forces and the secret Berlin detachment. Throughout the era, he explains the episodes in the Cold War, the situation at each time in Berlin, and then the work of our units to adapt to their environment and to conduct those difficult missions. The best example of that is the Berlin participation in the Tehran hostage rescue. Jim pulls no punches. He discusses mistakes and weaknesses along with the successes. The takeaway is the ability of a small Special Forces unit, under cover, to evolve, adapt, and continue to march until the enemy collapsed before them and they withdrew leaving no hint that they were there. Read it. Ignore the back-cover photos of ‘Styk’ morphing into Sam Elliot. It’s a publisher’s trick.

The TRUE Quite ProfessionalsOne of the premier clandestine Special Forces (aka Green Berets) sub-units of the Cold War was DET-A. Finally, James Stejskal with his book “Special Forces Berlin: Clandestine Cold War Operations of the US Army’s Elite, 1956-1990” gives this unit the historical treatment and tribute it deserves. This organization has left its mark on the evolution of modern Special Forces and its Unconventional Warfare mission. DET-A was a small unit stationed in Berlin, Germany for 34-years, during the height of the Cold War to conduct sensitive activities. This unit specialized in unconventional warfare, counter-terrorism and direct action using low-visibility techniques of tradecraft (plain clothes undercover operations) and high-end state-of-the-art equipment like their testing of the feasibility of employing Special Atomic Demolition Munitions (aka backpack nukes) before the mainstream establishment of Green Light teams. DET-A also revolutionized counter-terrorism techniques later adopted by Blue Light a Special Forces stopgap counter terrorist unit that was disbanded after the establishment of the 1st SFOD-D (aka Delta Force). This book outlines all this plus much more, and although this book does not divulge any classified information (rightly so) it is still very revealing. It is comforting to know this capability lives on in the modern Special Forces maintaining that direct linage to the WWII Office of Stratgic Services (OSS) and DET-A respectively. I will also add that besides the superb quality of the hardcover book I also purchased the Kindle version because I did not want to wait for the book to arrive in the mail. The Kindle version is excellent on my PC and smart phone with no glitches. I highly recommend this book to all SOF operators, military historians and, I think it reads very well for the layman reader as well; who will be intrigued by the exploits of these extraordinary men. As a 28-years active duty SF operator I give this book five stars!

The new version of Cress's translation of Descartes's Meditations has attained an unusually high degree of readability . . . and at the same time, of fidelity to the original.--Roger Ariew, University of South Florida, and Marjorie Grene (1910-2009), Virginia Polytechnic Institute

Make me question everything. After reading this book I questioned reality, sensations, and even my own existence. I am now trapped in the vortex of time all by myself for about 1000 years now, so I would say this is a great book. Or is it? What makes it a great book? What is a great book? What is a book? What is life? What is reality? Why am i a philosophy major? What am i going to do with my life now? Why am i writing a funny review on Amazon instead of studying for my finals so I can stop disappointing my parents?

We are 1641, Descartes or "the thinking thing", as he calls himself, is meditating about the existence of a god + telling apart soul and body. Medieval follies apart, the fun here comes from his ingenious methodology building the argument. First, he admits being aware of his ignorance therefore prone to errors. Second, he claims to be able to free his mind from senses and prejudices; also ready to demolish his own opinions given new evidences. Then he goes about defining what information his senses are providing to conclude that, in a senseless mind-set, the idea of god is still with him. I’m reading this in 2016, we know humans can’t reach such senseless state but Descartes is still very entertaining.

In the "Discourse on Method for Conducting One's Reason Well and for Searching for Truth in the Sciences" (1637) Descartes suggests that perfect knowledge can be achieved by means of perfect, individual reasoning. According to Descartes, reason can only guarantee its truth-seeking value in the personal sphere, and even then only when it is gradually and systematically applied. Descartes demonstrates his own method for generating perfectly reasoned knowledge, but it is the model of this behavior and not the knowledge itself that ought benefit his readers. The text is in this sense a testament to Descartes' own progress as a practitioner of his own method. Descartes exerts himself as the ultimate critic whose default stance is one of doubt and who wishes to reform his own thought according to the most rigorous standards of reason possible. He does not succeed in following most of his maxims. Nevertheless, his experiment is a notable instance of the struggle for individual enlightenment.First, Descartes addresses the harms of the status quo organization of knowledge and its acquisition. He identifies the vector by which falsehoods propagate themselves undetected among the disciplines of human knowledge. The current realm of human knowledge is the product of "design by committee" in the sense that it is cumulative and collaborative, meaning that previous errors in reasoning may serve as the ostensibly firm foundations for the current order of knowledge. He alleges that no discipline of knowledge can be said to be entirely reasoned from empirical data. He criticizes even the apparently objective systems of mathematics and logic for a deficiency of application. Descartes points to controversies and inconsistencies between disciplines as evidence of imperfection among the sciences, for if they were perfectly conceived, they would be a single and uniform science. In theory, these unstable foundations could be reformed at the individual level with individual reason alone. To this end, Descartes performs his own experiment, isolating himself from the order of human knowledge to the best of his ability. He recommends that the individual reasoner enter a knowledge vacuum that is void of the mental constructs with which other humans think. Like Bacon, Descartes wishes to distance himself from the logic of syllogism and abandon the "Idols of the Theater." Starting from a single absolutely true concept, if one can reason it out, one might gradually construct knowledge by the sole mechanism of pure reasoning, resulting in trustworthy and verified blocks of knowledge which have been thought out by the individual reasoner and which ideally have empirical evidence in the world. Descartes performs this role to demonstrate the solvency of the method to himself. His first building block is perhaps the first warning signal with regard to the rest of his project, but it is also one of the only reasoning sessions to which the readers have detailed access. Descartes falls short even at this primary stage because he is unable to achieve a point zero of knowledge from which to start. Beyond this, it is evident from Descartes own writing that his "good sense" frequently makes reasoned but unreasonable leaps. Indeed, readers may only ponder the interim years in which Descartes moved from his starting point of "I think therefore I am" to his much more specific "knowledge" concerning the heart. Descartes' task of operating solely by means of individual reason is both impossible and inadvisable. Furthermore, his project is a performative contradiction: the notion of individual reason opposes the adoption of collectively achieved knowledge, yet the text serves the very purpose of intruding upon the reader's individual sphere of reason. But, for all of this project's weaknesses in practice, Descartes' project shifts the responsibility and procedure of enlightenment away from the elite class of thinkers into the domain of the autonomous reasoner.

A book well worth reading for anyone interested in the history of philosophy, but even moreso for those interested in Christian theology. Herein is the basis for most Protestant Christian interpretations of Jesus and the Bible. Descartes provides those who agree with him certainty about a discrete Self that has 'free will,' and a God who 'is not a deceiver' thus rendering our perceptions and rational thought trustworthy. I disagree with him most every step of the way, but it is a fascinating read given its impact on the historical development of philosophy and western religion.

At my undergraduate university I was forced to taken to humanities electives and was ordered to read this in one of them....and I actually ended up loving it! Book was of good quality and was much cheaper than my local bookstore at my university. As far as content goes, I would say that this book changed the way that I perceived the world around me. Previous to read this book, I was a biochemistry major who only focused on getting my scientific studies done to further my science education. By the time I finished this book I (as corny as it sounds) felt much more cultured and actually was inspired to read other books of philosophical nature. I am very glad with this and for the price of about $10 I doubt that you can do any better than Decartes! Enjoy!

If you pick up this book thinking it exists, take a moment to clear your head of all you know to be true. To truly immerse yourself in this book, you must put aside all you know and take in every word as if it were knew knowledge. This book is a great place to start for aspiring students of philosophy.

One of the fathers of Dualism, or the belief that the body and soul are two different entities. Extremely complex to read, but fascinating at the same time.

We are in 1637, Descartes is explaining his method to define a stable basis for all knowledge. Hats off to his frankness on mastering the mediocrity of his mind also aware of the short duration of life. The man was masterful creating ingenious analogies to explain ideas; making the whole thing a delicious read.

I’ve made recipes #64 and #99 and both were not good. In #64 there’s a HUGE error that says to pour 1/2 Cup of olive oil in your Instant pot set pot to sauté then brown your chicken tenders. Brown? How about deep fry and leave food greasy and a greasy taste in your mouth. As for #99, the pork chops were over cooked and the rice wasn’t great either. To top it all off parts of the recipes read as if they’ve been translated from a language other than English, example they use the work “than” when it should be “then” just for one example.I’m so disappointed that the first two recipes I’ve made in my Christmas present were so bad that I can’t believe that I have to throw out chicken tenders and throw good money away on food. I’m literally going to be sick from tasting the chicken tenders.....I’ll be deleting this book as soon as I finish this review. How to do I get my money refunded for this piece of garbage?

I have a close friend who is having a pretty lonely Christmas. Basically just him and his trusty 3-quart Internet Pot. He also isn't as creative with the appliance as his ex-gf so he needed something with a lot of recipes and fit for... I guess stress eating. And I picked the right book because the serving sizes might just be enough for two ordinary folks or one really really hungry dude! And I'm so happy with the selection that I plan on jotting a bunch of recipes including a couple of good ones I tried before gifting it to him. The whole "for two" theme is a terrific concept! Going to try to look for more of these!

The Cookbook is very helpful if you purchased mini Instant pot device. It helps me to study all the ways of cooking with it. I found out that I didn't know anything about my device before purchasing this book. The dishes are rudimentally comfort foods but without all the corpulence. Alimental information and accommodating sizes included in each recipe.Instant mini Pot Cookbook is an astonishing book. Each item of the book is very well arranged you can take the book once you want. Book recipes are very tasty and very attractive to me. Thank you so much for the author because i found some thing new in the book. Highly recommend this book.

Love this thing. Not as instant as everyone advertises though, as it needs time to heat up and pressurize.

I don’t have this book and I don’t intend to purchase it. Based on the glowing reviews posted here, I don’t believe most were written by actual readers. There are repeated grammatical errors in the reviews and some reviews are obviously copied from others. Sadly I am not going to purchase this recipe book.

This was a great cookbook. In this book the author done well job about mini instant pot recipes. All the recipes was good for our health. I try to follow this book and i will suggest this book all my friend.

After reading the information about instant pot I decided to try some recipes and as a result. I like this book. Good looking cookbook & a happy addition to my collection. I hope if you read this book then you can learn more. I would highly recommended to read this book everyone.

Very good book. I like this book. Good looking cookbook & a happy addition to my collection. Easy to read and understand. The Mini is my first Instant Pot. I am recommended this book and thank you author.

#96,903 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I bought this because I love history and wanted to supplement my daughter's AP Euro textbook that was a more difficult read. This book offers good information in a readable way that puts things into perspective. While a textbook is strictly facts, this book puts those facts into a coherent context.

Many find this book deficient; however I think it the best book on European history ever written. There is much that one cannot easily find in other sources. I like so much that I have purchased three versions (having 'used up' the previous ones).

Being an Irishman, like the rest of my fellow countrymen, I sometimes have a skewed view of my own country's history. Down with the English, thank god for St. Patrick and all the rest. What I like about Davies take on things is that straight from the first line of his considerably long intro/prologue, he lets the reader know that to go any further one may dispense with parochial terms like : England, Italy, and even Roman or Barbarian. His views on the symbiotic relationship between Christianity and Islam and how this relationship was vital in molding the modern 'Europe' is especially enlightening.I knew what I was getting into after reading Davies other tome, 'The Isles', so there was no surprise for me in store in this book. Some readers however might take offence to the authors bashing bashing of his peers, especially his own countrymen and their nationalistic views. To me but there is no better volume out there on the history on the vague and ambiguous are of lands that we call Europe.Be prepared to come away from this book with a totally different view on what it means to be not only European, but to be of this world, to be a believer in Christ, or a follower of Mohammad. Leave at the door your perceptions of what it means to be a speaker of Germanic or Romance or Slavic languages. This book will leave all your long held theories and beliefs in the dusts of history..

This is such an entertaining (and long) read (12 huge chapters). Davies does a great job by compiling an unimaginable amount of material on Europe into one single volume. His book covers basically everything from the geography of the European continent, to linguistics, mythology and most importantly, history since ancient times until the downfall of the Soviet Union and the rise of the European Union.Davies offers good skills as a writer even though some passages look dull. The problem when reading such a book for readers not familiar with the European history is that the reader is demanded to quickly absorb a huge number of names, dates and events complied into a quick survey volume. Perhaps, Davies could have given up on some details to allow readers a better grasp of the offered material. But details cover all subjects from the succession of Charlemagne to the formation of the English feudal system and the history of feudal families and European monarchies up to the two world wars and beyond. The book is certainly a reference work that belongs to the shelves of every researcher.

In addition to Davies rather incredible grasp of facts, he is a great writer, often with a rather sly sense of humor. Perhaps like other wanna-be history buffs, I've read many books on the "particulars" ranging from the Roman Empire, the Thirty Years War or whatever, most of which is forgotten after a few years. This book brings it all back - often times with a different slant - and nicely ties together they myriad of themes that made European history. As a minor warning, I found the first chapter on prehistory a bit of a turn off because of the lack of maps. Whilst one easily gets the general picture on migration paths, the particular geographic locations mentioned are a bit obscure - unless one happens to know where places like the Moldavian Gap are. This chapter is, in parts, a tad heavy and academic, and - unlike the rest of the book - lacking in maps. Aside from this rather slow start the rest is just great - couldn't put it down.

I read this for fun. It is a thorough book and covers most of the history of Europe. The writer is a bit condescending of other history writers at times, which makes it a little funny.Note the date of publishing as it ends shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Very interesting, but almost impossible to read in its Kindle version since the main text is constantly interrupted by what in the printed book would be footnotes or inserts, but here are massive disgressions that force the reader to go back and forth in search of the next paragraph. The maps, diagrams and plates look like poor quality photostats and are impossible to read or appreciate. A good book absolutely ruined by its traslation to digital form.

I lived in Europe for 3 1/2 years while in the Army. I lived in Germany and was deployed to Kosovo for over a year. I traveled to nearly 20 countries and countless cities in that time. This book was with me for it all. With this book Davies attempts the enormous task of trying to plot the entire history of Europe from its creation up until modern times. Although no work of this type could possibly be complete in one volume, Davies does a very good job in hitting almost everything you could want. This is essentially a reference book. It gives you a good starting point on almost any subject or period you are interested in. I would suggest a basic knowledge of European history before trying to read this cover to cover like I did.Even though it is rather bulky I took it with me on all of my travels. Every city I went to I used this to maximize my travel so that I could focus on what I thought would be most interesting. Lets face it a normal guidebook will bring you to the places a tourist would find interesting and not what is necessarily historically significant.Although there are a lot of books that are more specific than this work in any given area none are as complete a compendium as this work is. If you are a student of history then this book is a necessity.

First and foremost I had NO IDEA that Moses even had a wife, let alone a Cushite/ Black woman who he was attractive and stole his heart and love, yet wouldn't have him until he had completed what God wanted him to do. This is such a touching story about love, no matter what color a person is. It's about love of a man and his duty not just to his wife and children, but foremost to Yahweh. I knew the ending, yet I didn't want it to end. Well written Mark Hayek I'm looking forward to the last of your trilogy. Lilah.

I enjoyed this book it is part of a trilogy of the women in the bible. First keep in mind this is not an actual account of the bible story but an imagined account. I enjoyed reading the account of Zipporahs days meeting Moses, being with him, marrying him, traveling with him back to Egypt and finally leaving with him to cross the desert. The story is imaginative and there are no slow points. Her unique insight as a chushite was powerful. I did have to read several parts a few times as the writing was switching from first account to narrative but nothing serious. It enjoyed it and will read all the others in the trilogy.I did not receive this book in exchange for a review

This fictional account of Zipporah and her import in Moses' life will certainly make you reflect upon the biblical stories this narrative uses as its foundation! Marek Halter truly brings Zipporah and her impact on Moses to life!Concurrently, Halter leads his readers to question and explore the not button issues we, in the 21st century, continue to struggle with.... Whose God is the real one? Why does race matter? Should women be equal to men? How do we break the bonds of slavery to particular ideas that allow us to see others as strangers, unequal, LESS than us?Easy read but powerfully thought-provoking!!!

I’m not sure if it is true because I’ve never heard of Moses having a wife. Actually they were never married. Good writing though.

I like the concept of the book, it was an original perspective on a very well known story. I personally did not like the way the book was written, I had trouble getting into the book and relating to the characters.

Re-Creation of a biblical story, putting flesh on the bones of time, is how I see this lovely book. I was interested in the human quality of the characters, as well as their messy, uncertain, confused pact with an unknown God.I felt challenged to think of the dry Bible of my understanding in new ways, and to feel the sacrifice made by each of the players of the time who gave their lives to follow an unknown path and a demanding God. I am not judging the writing so much as the story, which has been a powerful one, filled with meaning, and potentiality.

God says there was never a man like Moses that he spoke with face to face. I had to stop reading it. Really, they had sex before they were married? Very bad theology. The Israelites crossed the Red Sea not the Reed Sea. That’s why there are chariot wheels in the sea of Aqaba and pillars from the time of Solomon pointing out the crossing. On and on on it goes.

Good enjoyable Read. The BIBLE does not tell us much about Zipporah. This is a fictional account of the life of Zipporah and Moses. This novel is fast paced and the characters are pretty well developed. The author does somewhat follow the biblical account of Moses at the end of the book.
