I am going through a decluttering process and purchased this price guide to price 103 different baseball card sets from 1976-1995, many of them small insert sets, but others regularly produced sets. Of the 103 sets I sought to price, 48 are not included. This includes all Leaf and Leaf Studio products. Print is very small and indexing is though a label on the side of the page. I would not purchase this product again.

It is not nearly as comprehensive as lead to believe. It is missing many sets and inserts. Examples: there are no values for the 2005 or 2010 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection. Also missing, the 2005 Upper Deck Hall of Fame set and its inserts. They do not list any values for any year that Upper Deck produced minor league sets. These are just a few sets I noticed that are missing. Beckett's can not claim that these products were poorly received or have little value, to the contrary, Upper Deck baseball products are still among some of the highest valued and most sought after baseball cards in the industry. That is not the reason Upper Deck no longer possesses a licence to produce baseball cards. Then there is a substantial over lap with their Baseball Monthly Guide and their Vintage Guide. This is room Beckett's could have use to list the value of those missing Upper Deck sets. What good is a comprehensive price guide if they don't report on the products your looking for?

Over 800 pages of prices. No Fleer Flair, no Leaf, no Select, no Pinnacle, no Skybox, no Collector's Choice. Yet, every card from the 1987 Fleer set, all 660, is listed and the entire set is worth $15. That's just one of many many examples.

I bought this guide because I had a pile of cards that weren't listed in my monthly baseball Beckett. Well, 95% of them aren't listed in this annual, either. Among the sets Beckett omitted:-Absolute Baseball-Topps Stars-Every Pinnacle set-Ebery Leaf Set-Molten Metal-Donruss Preferred-Every EX Set-Every Pacific Set-Every Skybox Set-Fleer Tradition-Every UD Black Diamond Set-Upper Deck 40 Man-UD Collector's Choice-SP Top Prospects-UD Piece of History-Upper Deck TrilogyI'm sure there's more, but this is what I came across in the past hour. But don't way - your 1989 Donruss Doug Drabek and every other common from that set is listed.What an absolute waste of money! Never again, Beckett. And no - I'm not dropping $99 a year on your online baseball price guide You stink!

This is NOT a coffee table book with photos of famous jewels. It is a well written history of one jewelry manufacturing house that produced some of the pieces sold by Tiffany, Cartier, and other high-end jewelers. The level of expertise in design and construction is truly amazing. The text is very well written and there are a fair number of color and b&w photos, including some close ups, but not as many as one would wish to document over 100 years of high quality production. The text follows Oscar Heyman & Bros. chronologically beginning before WWI, so it provides a general history of American jewelry styles of the 20th century by default. I really enjoyed this book, but it may not be the best choice for someone who wants a coffee table-size book of gems from many jewelers, countries, and time periods. As a history of Oscar Heyman & Bros., it is definitely worth buying. Intended more for readers interested in jewelry production, than someone who wants a general overview of jewelry history.

The lead is either completely incompetent and inexperienced and then all-too-quickly become heroes, or the (female) lead has sophomoric traits that distractingly pepper her character to make her relatable. Experiencing characters written shallowly like that take me out of the story.Ember is flawed but has a solid base of training and experience. She is mentored but not by an all-powerful "Yoda" that would be doing the job better than the apprentice, but instead, Wallace is now physically distant from her. Ember is capable, but now on her own. She is learning, growing, and discovering that the training and magic world that she keeps hidden isn't quite as is seems. There are deeper forces happening that will change the world that she is trying to master.Ember is working not in her native England, but in Deepest Darkest Mysterious... North Dakota. As she is learning things culturally in her new home of the "Magic City", I'm drawn deeply into how she is looking at her new world. When things go upside down for her, I'm pulled in. When she learns to trust new friends, the characters become someone I can expect to continue trusting. When she is in danger, I'm glued to the page. There is a new (alternate to the Drew rules that she knew) world of magic that she is being introduced to as she works on fixing the Changelings.At the end of the book, I knew that some situations were resolved, but I recognize that the door was opened for much bigger personal trials for Ember.

From the moment the first paragraph begins, I was caught. The characters are incredibly relatable and well written. Each chapter leaves you like a coke fiend scratching for more. There's not a single character I couldn't imagine walking right off the page and into reality. The fact its set in North Dakota is a HUGE bonus! I've been to the places set in this book, and now, after reading it, I can't wait to visit again and this time see them as they are in the story!Don't ever end this, Frank and Raelea Hurt.

This is my first modern fantasy series I have read. I am no stranger to reading fantasy novels. I have read close to 1000 fantasy books. From authors such as David Eddings, Terry Brooks, Brandon Sanderson etc. I found this to be an excellent read. I read the prequel novel Fog Over Mandaree. Frank and RaeLae have combined to write an interesting fantasy novel. The novel moves at a very good pace. I like the fact that the hero of the story Ember is female. The character development is great. You learn about them as the story moves along. There is plenty of action as well as comedy written into the story. I am excited to continue to find out if they can solve the problem set forth. I hope they find a way to get the changeling animal forms recovered from between the world's. It will also be nice to see where Ember's relationship with Alrik will lead. I also enjoyed Wallace "The Legend" interaction with Ember. Here powers are not fully developed yet. I will eagerly await the next book to find out what new magical power Ember will develop. She is starting to learn what the other tracts of the investigator paths could be. The Inquisitors. I look forward to reading the next book.

I‘m enjoying the start of reading the author’s books in this series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.

I always enjoy a story where the main character develops and grows with the story. I hope to read more from these authors.

The author(s) have a decent command of too far nord scandi-english and a lamentably limited one dimensional notion of actual English That is jarring to someone like myself whi is fluent in both. Adequate tale passably told. Don't read this without knowing you'll have to read at least one more to read one complete novel. Bit of a disappointment.

I had no experience in JavaScript, all my coding was done in C#.NET, Delphi, Java and before reading this book first I started with JavaScript, the Good Parts book and failed...then moved to Secrets of JavaScript Ninja book and again failed, they were not for beginners...Then I came to this one and awesome book. It is from beginner to Professional all in one. Don't worry about the size of the book if you are a developer you can read it much faster because you don't really need all of it if it is teaching you what is a variable and fast forward to the parts you don't know...If you are new to JavaScript first read this book before reading the other two books I mentioned above.

Overall useful for experienced developers of any language. That is to say, if you are a beginner programmer, I would find another book (and language quite frankly). As far as the good, this book seems to cover everything that deals with JavaScript and the browser without bringing in frameworks and libraries. The reason I rate this 4 instead of 5 is because it's organized a bit strange. For example, the author spends a lot of time talking about what variables are, the different types of variables (primitive values and references), and how they are copied. The thing is that there aren't any surprises here, and he could have explained this in about half the space. Additionally, he talks a lot about how scope, variables, and execution context pertain to objects prior to ever explaining what objects are. He then calls out with and try/catch. Then he only explains with, but the example cannot be executed yet because with is a way to assign execution context to a single object. He doesn't explain try/catch for JavaScript at all. Moreover, if you read JavaScript: The Good Parts by Crockford, he explains why with is actually quite ambiguous and will silently create undefined global variables if you attempt to access undefined properties. No mention of this in Professional JavaScriptThis is all just to get to this point: There is a lot of good information here. However, the information isn't well organized, and I am not sure who the audience is. Some of the information is also incomplete. If you're an experienced programmer learning JavaScript this is a fine starting point. There are other starting points to consider too. For my tastes, I would prefer something that is better organized and went more indepth into the language features and spent less time explaining standard concepts in OO languages. Or do so and market the book as a beginner's book.

There is a line from Lion King where little Simba comments on his Uncle Scar's weirdness. Scar replies "You have no idea." The main point of this review is that Javascript is a really weird contraption, and that this book points this out in a way that is very helpful for programmers coming from more traditional compiled programming languages. I have programmed in C, C++, Java, C# for many years. I have read other books on Javascript which tried to teach by examples. With normal programming languages, this works fine. However, within a few hours with this book I realized that to understand Javascript, you must give up on some basic expectations you may have as a code developer. This was a surprise to me, but crucial to be able to learn Javascript well enough to work on non-trivial projects with existing code. Javascript is simply bizarre. There are many different ways to implement object-oriented patterns which all use different-looking code, and have subtle differences, making it so easy to get bitten by unintended consequences. From this book I learned that there is no one solid way to implement the basic pattern of your code, you must make a choice. If you try to read a Javascript book which teaches by examples, you will be in trouble when you actually start to modify someone else's Javascript code which used a different pattern. This book doesn't just show trivial examples, it methodically goes through how it works in enough detail so you can understand how it is working under the hood. Also, the text has plenty of warnings about buggy implementations and common pitfalls. After you get about 1/4 of the way through it you will be wondering how any Javascript code runs on Internet Explorer at all, since about every other page is another 'this-is-broken-in-IE' warning boxes. The text is written in a very clear style, never glossing over anything. It isn't at all cute or made to be entertaining, just kind of down to business. There is no question I will be using this book nearly every time I have to work on Javascript code. If you are just looking to make a little mouse button handler in a web page, this is probably not the book for you. It does not jump right into little useful examples. If you are coming from a programming background in traditional compiled languages, and you want to know more about Javascript than little tiny scripts, IMHO this book is absolutely necessary. You will never regret purchasing it.

I've almost finished this book (up to Chapter 23 out of 25). I taught myself web development over the past few years and so would describe my skills as intermediate, and was lacking understanding in some areas.This book contains a lot of good explanations of how JavaScript works and how to use it to its full potential. There are plenty of useful code snippets that the author presents and then explains. He also includes cross-browser solutions to various issues which is very helpful.The author introduces various new JavaScript APIs associated with HTML5 which are gaining fairly good browser support as of early 2014.Although this third edition was written a few years ago, it is still highly relevant. Just a tip for others buying the third edition - you might want to skip over Chapter 19: Ecmascript for XML. It describes E4X; a technology which has since been deprecated.
